Jim Fain, 63, of Fincastle passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018, after a long illness.

Jim was born in Welch, West Virginia to the late Robert Franklin Fain and Mildred Elizabeth (Sally) Jarrett Fain Ward.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters Elizabeth “Beth” Fain and Jean Fain Pettus. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan; daughters Echo Fain and Amanda Fain both of Huntington, West Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Lee and Melody Fain, of Knightdale, North Carolina; grandchildren: Jackie Hinson and her spouse Michael, Kenzie Hagerman, Alannah and Alena Spearman of Huntington, West Virginia, and Danielle, Megan, and Katie Fain of Grand Junction, Colorado. He also recently welcomed a great-granddaughter, Iliza Danica Hinson. Also surviving are his sisters, Roberta “June”, Kathy, Janice, and Joyce, and a brother, Robert, Jr. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth “Beth” Fain and Jean Fain Pettus.

Jim was a dedicated husband and father, a passionate outdoorsman who loved to camp, fish, and hunt. He treated Mother Nature with respect and enjoyed spending his time working on masonry projects and walking in the woods. He was born the son of a coal miner and proudly displayed a strong and vibrant work ethic working as a surveyor/engineer, Chair of the Botetourt County Democratic Committee, and was a dedicated fan of West Virginia University’s football and basketball teams.

Jim’s family also would like to thank Dr. Mark Kochenderfer and Ms. Jolee Preston at Blue Ridge Cancer Care and Ms. Sandy Grabowski of Amedisys Hospice for their kind and caring treatment during his illness.

The family will receive friends 2-4pm Sunday, January 21 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the American Cancer Society,
