My heart goes out to Jim's family at this time of sorrow and grief. May you be comforted in the knowledge that he will live in your hearts always and that his legacy is always to be found in the faces of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren!!! I'll miss walking those West Virginia hills with Jimmy like we did in our high school days, but I'll remember. Peace unto you all now and always. Aloha.

It's hard to imagine him not with us. The thought breaks my heart and goes on shattering it into dust. He taught me ethics and a deep and abiding love for the natural world. All that I do and say and feel and know are based in what he gave me. While being a subtle and often shy man, he loved us with a quiet intensity I seldom see in anyone else. I will spend all my life missing him, laughing and crying by turns, and that's okay because Dad's on that long fishing trip and I might see him up the river a ways. We can talk about it then.

I join you Susan, Amanda, Lee, Echo, my sisters and brother in sorrow as we send Jimmy on his way. Even though I’m not there in body, I am there in spirit. Jim, I have always loved him, even when Dad showed him up with me, being stronger than him. Very special memories with him. Love to you all.

This makes me very sad! Jim was always very kind and considerate, and he felt things deeply.I appreciate all that he did for the local Democrats. He spoke of his outdoor pursuits with enthusiasm, and of Susan and his children with great pride! I wish each of you some comfort in how important you were to him, and the happiness you brought him.---Gretchen Notermann

Jimmy...
May the good earth be soft under you when you rest upon it, and may it rest easy over you when, at the last, you lay out under it, And may it rest so lightly over you that your soul may be out from under it quickly, and up, and off, And be on its way to God.
