Hal Abernethy

Hal Abernethy, 74, of Roanoke County, died Thursday, February 9, 2017 at his home.

Hal was born September 8, 1942 and lived in the Roanoke Valley since 1980. He was the son of the late Ernest and Bernice Abernethy. Hal loved his dogs Darcey and Bailey, and had rescued and fostered numerous dogs. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Hal is survived by his dear friend Connie T. Browning of Salem; his daughters Tamara Barnhart of South Carolina and Tracy Cartrette of North Carolina; Connie's children, Jenna Fidler of Roanoke, Shana Williams of Rocky Mount; and his parish family of Holy Trinity.

A funeral liturgy will be 11:00 AM, Friday, February 17 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Huntington Boulevard, Roanoke with Very Reverend Nikolaos Galanopoulos officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Burial Park. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund, 30 Huntington Boulevard, Roanoke, Virginia 24012.
