Larry Steven “Steve” Reed, age 67, of Roanoke, Virginia passed away in his home surrounded by his family and friends on Friday, August 5th, 2022, after a short battle with liver angiosarcoma.
Steve, born June 12, 1955 in Roanoke, Virginia, was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth E. Reed Sr. and Claudine E. Reed, and his brother, Kenneth E. Reed, Jr.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Janice Roberts Reed, his two daughters and their families: Angela Dawn Howard and her husband Robert Heath Howard of Iron Gate, VA, Tracy Lechelle Livengood and her husband James Michael Livengood of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; his grandsons: Jadon Reed and Brendon Reyes; his granddaughters: Ashlyn Reyes and Olivia Livengood; and soon to be born great grandson, Kash James. His sisters: Lynn Creasey and her husband, Aubrey, of Roanoke, VA and Tammy Craighead and her husband, Bobby, of Marion, VA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
After a personal study of the Bible, Steve dedicated his life to his God, Jehovah, and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 19th, 1974. For many years he enjoyed volunteering his time and skills to help construct places of worship along the east coast.
Steve was a skilled finish carpenter for many years before retiring as a truck driver in 2021.
Steve was devoted to his wife, his family, and to Jehovah God until the end. He loved his family and found special joy in life, by spending time with his grandchildren.
At the young age of 7 he began teaching himself how to play the guitar and sing. Throughout his life he spent much time entertaining friends with his music. His sense of humor brought much joy and laughter to those he spent time with. It was not a family gathering without Steve, his guitar, his singing, and his quick wit.
The family of Steve Reed would like to express sincere appreciation for the many acts of kindness shown during this time of grief and sadness. Your love and support will always be remembered.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday August 10 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road Daleville with Gino Wygal presiding. Burial will be at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.
Due to the nature of Steve’s illness, in lieu of flowers, his wife and daughters have requested that donations be made to Duke Sarcoma Program, 300 W. Morgan St., Suite 1200, Durham, NC 27701; or to Angiosarcoma Project, 415 Main Street, Cambridge, MA 02142.
