Tribute

Judy Young Morris entered a larger life with God on Friday, February 25, 2022, after a prolonged bout with ovarian cancer. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie G. Young and Ardath P. Young and her niece, Miche Young Tentor. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John T. Morris; siblings Diane Young Stephenson, James P. Young and Robert G. Young; niece Angela Young Gilbert; great nieces Meredith Tentor and Mikaela Gilbert; great nephews Zachary Tentor and Aiden Gilbert; and special family members Larry and Carla Tentor and Carla’s daughters Molly and Morgan Crews.

Judy was born on April 21, 1948, in Ft. Worth, TX, and grew up in Roanoke. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1966. Judy attended VA Tech where she met her husband, John. They were married in January, 1970. Judy and John lived in Germany while John was in the Army, then returned to the US and spent time traveling around the country to look for the place where they would like to settle down. As luck would have it, John had an excellent job offer with an architectural firm here in Roanoke. Over the years, they lived in several places in the Roanoke area, finally settling on Botetourt County to build their home where they have lived for over 40 years. Judy worked as a cartographer for several years before returning to VPI to complete her degree. After graduation, Judy entered the insurance field, becoming a Certified Financial Planner and opening her own business in that field. Judy was an active member of the Historic Greenfield Preservation Advisory Council, working diligently on the project to save the Greenfield Plantation Slave Quarters buildings. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and is a member of the Botetourt Chapter DAR.

Her family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the kind and caring staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for their help during Judy’s last days and to all of their dear friends who have been so supportive to her and John throughout her illness.

There will be a Memorial Service at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 19 Cedar Ridge Drive Daleville at 11:00 am on Friday March 4th. Family will receive visitors at the church prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. A private burial will be held at a later date.
