Bonnie Mae Russell Sanders-Leonard died March 11, 2021 peacefully. She was 95 years old. Born in Hallettsville, Texas October 17, 1925 to her parents, Jewel T. and Jessie Neely Russell, who preceded her in death along with her two siblings Guelda Russell Gaekel-Lax, Wallace R. Russell, her son Gordon Kerry Sanders, and best friend Julie Forrend who died nine days before her.
She is survived by daughter Sharon K. Sproles, son Robert R. and wife Diana Sanders, Daughter in-law Dorothy Sanders, five grandchildren; Lisa Belling Dequiroz, Brendon K. Sanders, Brian L. Belling, Arica Sanders Thomas, and Parker R. Sanders, Ten great grandchildren, Five great-great grandchildren and one niece and three nephews.
Bonnie was a writer, poet, and artist who received awards from the World of Poetry and other organizations. She loved nature and beauty. Much of her poetry reflects her love of God, his creation and her struggle in life’s difficulties. In her younger years was involved in many church ministries.
She had a gypsy spirit and an artist temperament which helped her talent.
Towards the end of her life she was confined to her room due to COVID and was ready to “meet Jesus.”
She will be dearly missed by her family.
