Andrew Thomas Merritt, Sr. ag3 46 of Fincastle, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021 following a long illness.
Andrew was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia July 16, 1974 a lived in Fincastle for the past several years. He was the son of the late Aubrey Thomas Merritt, Jr. and Susan Christeen Edwards.
Andrew was a plumber and a smoke jumper. He had a passion for jumping from helicopters to fight forest fires in order to save the outdoors he loved. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, fishing, the outdoors, and his family. Andrew was an honest, loving, caring, thoughtful, feisty, strong and forgiving.
In addition to his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by his half-sister, DeeDee Merritt; uncle, Gordie Edwards; friends: Joe Burton and “Tree.” He is survived by his wife Laurie Taylor Merritt; children: Andrew Thomas Merritt, Jr. and Bryant Randolph Merritt; step-daughter, Ashley Gallagher; granddaughter, Rain Marie Ryan; step-mother, Mary Merritt; half-sister, Elvie Merritt; aunts: Cindy Merritt and Jeannie; cousins: Tena Merritt, Josh Edwards, Chris Merritt, and Samantha Edwards; everyone in his wife’s family; and friends: Mike Linkenholker, Cheryl Gilley, Darryl Gilley, Allen and Michelle, Ronnie, Billy, Arrington, Jamie and Merenda.
A celebration of Andrew’s life will be held at his home July 16, 2021.
