Sarah Johnston Gilliland, 73 of Troutville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 08, 2018.
Sarah was born in Monroe, Louisiana March 11, 1945 and lived in Botetourt since 1971. She was the daughter of the late Pipes A. Johnston and Maybelle Hart Johnston, PhD.
Sarah had a selfless dedication to her family and was very active in local PTA’s, education projects, and youth sports. She was one of the first female coaches of boys baseball in Botetourt County. Sarah was a “mom to many,” whether it be the neighborhood kids or the kids from sports teams.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law Dr. James W. Gilliland and is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dr. James W. Gilliland, Jr.; sons and daughters-in-law Jay and Heather Gilliland of Fincastle, James III and Seana Gilliland of Sterling, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Stephen Anderson of Cloverdale; grandchildren: Lauren, Andrew, Isabella, Ainsley, and Mason; mother-in-law Genevieve Gilliland and sister-in-law Gaye Bright, both of Ft. Worth, Texas; dear friends Betty Farmer, Karen Turner, and Nancy Kitchens.
A celebration of Sarah’s life will be 11:00 am Monday, August 13 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville with Reverend Robert Hetherington officiating. Burial will be at Mill Creek Cemetery. Sarah’s family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, 2-5 pm.
