Sarah Chittum Camper, age 91 of Troutville, died Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Carrington Place following a brief illness.
Sarah was born October 30, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Hoyd W. and Edith G. Camper Chittum. She lived in Botetourt since 2003.
Sarah retired from Hotel Roanoke after more than 20 years of service. She was a member of the Gideons Women’s Auxiliary, a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Vinton, and enjoyed reading her Bible, gardening, and flowers.
In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon W. Camper; her son, Wilson Camper; and son-in-law Charlie West. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Timmy and Kitten Camper of Blue Ridge, Nathan and Martha Camper of Roanoke; daughters and son-in-law Lucinda and Larry Carr of Troutville, and Nanette West of Floyd; grandchildren: Katrina Nichols, Heather Hogan, Lauren West, Shane Carr, T.J. Camper, Jeremy Camper, Keith Camper, Danci Ware, Matthew West, Thomas West, Hannah West, Sarah West, Elizabeth West, Jacob Camper, and Emily Phillips; twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; brother and sister-in-law Linwood and Ruth Chittum of Lexington; sister Patricia Keefe of Indiana; and many loving family and friends.
A celebration honoring Sarah’s life will be 1:00pm Tuesday, January 22 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road Daleville with Reverend Stanley Ogden officiating. A private burial will be at Franklin Memorial Park. Sarah’s family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, 6-8pm.
