Roy “Popcorn” Kenny Burrell, Jr., of Iron Gate, VA, was called home to be with the Lord Friday, May 14, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Roy was born in Fincastle, VA to Roy Kenny Burrell, Sr., and Pearl Elaine Ward Burrell. He is survived by his wife, Norvella Hunter Burrell; son Zachary Mack of Roanoke; bonus children: Ebbony of Manassas, Russell of Lynchburg, and John of Roanoke: nine grandchildren; his precious dog Atomic; brothers and sisters-in-law: Kelvin and Bertha Burrell of Fincastle, Emory Burrell of Troutville, Roger Payton and Essie Burrell of Troutville; sisters: Rita Chaney of Roanoke, Janice Burrell of Troutville, Karen Williams of Toledo, Ohio, Adrian Hancock of Roanoke; sisters-in-law: Diane (Clinton) Strawbridge of Harrisonburg, and Kim Lewis of Clifton Forge, and many loving family and friends. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his brothers: Gregory Burrell, Johnny Burrell, and Corey Hancock; and a sister, Elaine Arrington.
Roy enjoyed life. He loved relaxing with his dog Atomic and spending time with friends. Most important to him was his family.
A home going service celebrating Roy’s life will be held on Saturday, June 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Daleville, VA.
