Rose Marie Carter, age 84, of Troutville passed away Monday September 4, 2023.
Rose was born October 19, 1938 in Lexington, Virginia to the late Andy Divers and Martha Virginia (Hite) Nuckols. She grew up in Buena Vista and eventually moved to Glasgow, where she met her husband James. Rose and James settled in Natural Bridge where they raised 7 children. Rose has spent the past 14 years living in Troutville.
Rose enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching soap operas (Young and the Restless) and game shows (Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune) , but she mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and playing with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband: James Eldridge Carter Sr.; her brothers: Andy Nuckols Jr. and Leonard Nuckols; a sister: Kitten Goff;two cousins: Linda Gregory and Allen Long; and a beloved grandchild: Tara Carter. Rose is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: James Carter Jr. of Idaho, Dennis (Tonya) Carter and Norman Carter all of Ohio, Randy (Delores) Carter of Roanoke, Virginia; daughters and son-in-law: Teresa Carter of Buena Vista, Pamela (Steve) Viar of Troutville, and Carolyn Southers of Fairfield, Virginia; brother and sister-in-law: Maynard (Barbara) Nuckols of Buena Vista; sister: Barbara Shifflett of Arnold’s Valley, Virginia; 14 grandchildren: Michelle, Bethany, Scott, A.J., Shaunna (Greg), Ricky (Sheryl), Amanda, Randy Jr. (Tiffany), Jordon, Matthew, Melissa, Hillary, Samantha, and Dakota and 17 great-grandchildren: Madison, LilyAnna, Eli, Malakye, Jayden, Derrik, Jacob, Joshua, Lucas, Kaitlyn, Brandon, MacKenzie, Oaklynn, Kensley, Leland, Lennox, and Linkin.
A service will occur at a later date, at the family’s convenience.
