Roderick Lee “Roddy” Garnett, age 54 of Blue Ridge, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Roddy was born in Roanoke October 14, 1965 and lived in the Roanoke Valley all of his life.
Roddy graduated from William Byrd High School in 1984 and was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. He was the Environmental Health Manager in our area and had been employed with the Virginia Department of Health for 28 years. Roddy was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed collecting antiques, cars, and coins. He was a big Virginia Tech football fan and loved spending time at Smith Mountain Lake and the ocean.
Roddy was preceded in death by his grandparents: C. Robert and Brigid Keeney, Robert and Audrey Garnett; aunts and uncles: C. Robert Keeney, Jr., Grover C. Keeney, III, and Rebecca Keeney; and his mother-in-law, Betty Ann McCurley. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Heather Ann McCurley Garnett; son, Dakota L. Garnett of Blacksburg; parents: Kenneth W. and Elizabeth A. Keeney Garnett of Vinton; sister and brother-in-law Kimberley and David Rose of Roanoke; nephews and nieces: Ryan M. Bell, Corey R. Rose, and Emily P. Bell; sister-in-law Debbie (Kevin) Bell of Salem; father-in-law, David C. (Linda) McCurley of Stewartsville, New Jersey; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Roddy’s family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Thursday March 12 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road Daleville.
