Tribute

Robert DeMarco was born on June 20, 1936, in Brooklyn, NY to Robert and Grace DeMarco.  Bob loved Brooklyn (and of course the Brooklyn Dodgers) and resided there until his family moved to Long Island.  It was while commuting from Long Island to “the City” that Bob’s father met and later introduced Bob to his beloved wife, Gretchen Roschek.  They were married for 48 years until Gretchen’s passing on December 12, 2009.

Bob loved the outdoors and scouting – having become one of the youngest Eagle Scouts of his day.  This lead to a NROTC scholarship at Marquette University and service in the Navy as a pilot.  Bob was the epitome of service for others.  He was always giving back; whether through Scouting, coaching or the service organizations to which he belonged.

Bob’s career took him, quite literally, around the world.  While the family did not travel quite as extensively as Bob, they managed to relocate no less than 6 times before finally settling down in Sparta, New Jersey, in 1971.  It was while in Sparta that Bob and Gretchen raised four wonderful and loving children:  Robert, Jamie, William and Stephen.

Bob is survived by his children, Robert DeMarco, III, and his wife Carole of McKinney, TX, Jamie DeMarco of Lake St. Louis, MO, William DeMarco and his wife Tracie of Clearwater, FL, Stephen DeMarco and his wife Barbara of Fincastle, VA, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and brother Richard DeMarco of Alameda, CA.  He is preceded in death by his wife Gretchen, parents, Robert and Grace DeMarco and his sister Valerie Buzzetta.

Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
