Robert F. “Bobby” Caldwell, age 69 of Roanoke County passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at his home.
Bobby was born in Botetourt County September 26, 1949 and was the son of the late Heber F. and Dortha M. Thomas Caldwell. He lived in the area all of his life.
Bobby served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and received a Bronze Star. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, and country and bluegrass music.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his brother Larry Caldwell and is survived by his son Robert Fleming Caldwell, granddaughters Jasmine and Isabella; brothers: Ira Caldwell of Roanoke, Nelson Caldwell, Ronald Caldwell, Michael Caldwell all of Troutville; sisters Virginia Johnson of Hardy and Debora Caldwell of Roanoke; former spouse and friend Patti Hall; niece Michelle (JR) Gerst of Rocky Mount; and nephew Mason Caldwell of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
A service honoring Bobby’s life will be 11:00 AM Thursday, August 15 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road Daleville with Pastor Ben Peyton officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, 5-8pm.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity Bobby was passionate about: Disabled American Veterans, Homeless Veterans Initiative P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
