Michael Frank Thomas 78 of Roanoke, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 9.
Mike was born to Alvis and Louise Haymaker Thomas on October 31, 1939 in Botetourt County, VA. Mike attended Fincastle High School and Virginia Tech. He served in the Air Force and was a Virginia State Trooper for 11 years. He worked for many years in Retail Management for several companies including G.C. Murphy Company/Ames Department Stores, Unimart and Lowe’s Home Improvement.
Mike was a member of the Shriners and his hobbies included fishing, gardening, playing golf and raising beef cattle. He was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. One of his paintings won first place in a national Veterans Creative Arts Festival.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Albert Clemons and is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Jimmy Savage, grandchildren Evan and Ansley Savage, sister Nancy Clemons, sister and brother-in-law Ann and David Roberson, sister and brother-in-law Mary Lynne and Jack Leffel and a host of special nieces and nephews and their families.
A Memorial Service with military honors will be held 12:00 pm, Saturday, June 16 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville. Mike’s family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service beginning at 11:00 am.
