Lelia Wood Myrick

July 22, 1926 ~ March 9, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old
Lelia Wood Myrick, 90, a resident at The Glebe, in Daleville, VA, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017.

Lelia was born on July 26, 1926, in Rustburg, VA and graduated from Rustburg High School, as a member of the Class of 1944. Following high school, she completed the Private Secretarial Program at Phillips Business College, in Lynchburg, and then entered the business world. Finding that “the business world was not her cup of tea,” in September 1955, she began her studies at Lynchburg College and obtained her baccalaureate degree, as a member of the Class of 1961.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wyatt Wood and Nora Lee Shifflett Wood, and two brothers, Randolph Wood and Karl Wood. She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Edwin Allen Myrick, a pharmacist, whom she married on February 17, 1958, and who she described as “a gentleman and a scholar and the best thing that ever happened to me.” They began their marriage in Lynchburg, later moved to Vinton, VA, where he purchased a drug store, and then spent their final years together at The Glebe, in Daleville. Lelia and Edwin enjoyed traveling, including several cruises and overseas trips, with the highlight being a European excursion that included six countries. In addition to her love for travel, she also had a fondness for books and dogs.

She was further survived by her special 2nd cousin, Norma Carwile, her brother-in-law, Roy Myrick, Jr, his wife, Eliza Myrick, and their extended family.

Mr. Myrick would like to thank the staff at The Glebe for the care they provided to his beloved wife. He would also like to give thanks to the staff of the Amedysis Hospice of Salem for the care they provided in Lelia’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Lelia’s memory, to either Trinity Lutheran Church, at 4040 Williamson Road, Roanoke, VA 24012, or the Roanoke Valley SPCA, at 1340 Baldwin Ave, NE, Roanoke, VA 24012.

Mrs. Myrick’s funeral arrangements are private.
