Laura Ward, 58 of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Laura was born in Roanoke and lived in Fincastle most of her life. She was the daughter of Amos H. Dunbar and Betty Brogan Huffman.
Laura was a school bus driver for Roanoke City Public Schools for 20 years, retiring in 2008. She enjoyed her family, loving on everybody’s kids, and was a good cook.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Steven P. Ward; father, Amos H. Dunbar; step-father, Robert Huffman; mother-in-law Billie Ward; and a brother-in-law, Wendell Ward. She is survived by her son Michael W. Ward (fiancée Nicole) of Roanoke; her daughter Ashliegh Ward (Maurice) of Roanoke; her grandchildren: Devin Ward, DeAndre Heighter, Steven Hickman, Teyshaun Hickman, Jordan Hickman, Darius Hickman, and Branyal Saunders; her mother Betty Brogan Huffman of Roanoke; brothers and sister-in-law Charles and Tammy Dunbar of Buchanan, Ricky Dunbar of Galax; sister and brother-in-law Diane and James Mills of Roanoke; sisters-in-law Beryl (Billy) Word and Myra Ward both of Roanoke; brother-in-law Rodney Ward of Roanoke; beloved family pet, Daisy; special friend of the family, Alicia Campbell; and many loving family and friends.
A home going service honoring Laura’s life will be 3:00 pm, Wednesday April 25 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville with Reverend Montie Brown, Sr. officiating. Burial will be at First Baptist Church of Fincastle Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday beginning at 2:00 pm.
