June Moses Wood, age 86 of Catawba, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Carrington Cottage Memory Care following a long illness.
June was born at home in Catawba February 19, 1935 and lived in the area all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Wesley J. and Fannie R. Rhodes Moses.
June was a faithful church member. She grew up in Mountain View Baptist Church and transferred her membership to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in 2003 where she was active in the card committee, cooking for events, and secret sister. June was a farmer all of her life; having both a dairy farm and later a beef cattle farm. She enjoyed gardening, hunting, cooking, canning, flowers, singing, and homemaking; but most of all her family, especially, her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband J. Albert Wood; siblings: Joy Gunter, Jane Moses, Wesley Johnson Moses, Jr., and James Day Moses. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Michelle) Wood of Catawba; daughter, Rachel (Steve) Funkhouser of Elkton; grandchildren: Katelyn Funkhouser, Sydney Doss, Jonathan Wood, Catherine Funkhouser, Ember Ailstock, and Isaac Wood; sister, Peggy (Norman) Wood of Catawba; sister-in-law, Priscilla Wood; and special thanks to Bridgett Dalton for the amazing care given to June.
A celebration of June’s life will be 2:00 pm Sunday August 29 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road Daleville with Reverend Rob Marsh and Pastor Daniel Barham officiating. Burial will be at Mount Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the service Sunday, beginning at 12:00 Noon.
