Jean Hughes Moretz

Jean Hughes Moretz, age 84 of Roanoke, went home to be with her Lord and Savior June 17, 2020 at Friendship Manor South.

Jean was born May 20, 1936 in Nace where she lived until 1989. Jean was the daughter of the late Wyndom (Bill) and Jane Vass Hughes.

She was a member of Colonial Baptist Church and loved to read, play piano, sing, watch birds and travel all over the country.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brother Ronald C. Hughes, and two grandchildren: Dylan and Kendel Martin. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years, Roger L. Moretz; her two daughters, Sherry L. (Jeff) Childress, and Gail R. Martin (fiancé Michael Biggs) of Vinton; grandchildren: Brendan (Jennifer) Dalglish, Kelsey Martin, and Austin Martin; great-grandchildren: Carter, Mason, Jacob, and Ella Dalglish; and her sister, Melvina “Bunny” Obenshain of Troutville.

Jean’s family would like to thank the nurses at Friendship Manor South and Good Samaritan Hospice for her care the last days of her life.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be 2:00 pm Monday, June 22 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road Daleville with Reverend Marvin Wegner officiating. Burial will be at Mill Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, one hour prior to the service.
