James “Red” Pruitt, Jr., 82, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 30, 2017 at his home.
Red was born in Salem October 7, 1934 and lived in the Roanoke area all his life. He was the son of the late James Pruitt, Sr. and Mary Georgia Greenway Pruitt Dean.
Red was retired from the Salem Times Register; served in The United States Air Force and enjoyed fishing and racing. He attended The Church of God.
In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by wife Ruby Mae Puckett Pruitt, and grandchildren Bobbi Jo Pruitt and John J. Deisher, Jr. He is survived by his son James Pruitt, III and his fiancée Patricia Miller of Lambertville, Michigan; daughters and son-in-law Vicki and Glen Stinnette, Sandra Hartman, and Elizabeth and John Deisher all of Roanoke; grandchildren Katelyn Bowman and Chasity Pruitt Warr; three great-grandchildren; sisters Sylvia Camper, Iris Clark, Linda Eastman, Carolyn Blankenship, and Rosemary Harrison; several nieces and nephews; very good friend, George; and his beloved pet Nesse.
Funeral services honoring Red’s life will be 1:00pm, Saturday, May 6 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road with Pastor Billy Cox officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-4 & 6-8pm Friday.
