Irene Hare Williamson, age 108, passed away Monday, May 11, 2020 at The Glebe Health Care Center. She attributed her long life to her faith in God.
Irene was born May 6, 1912 in Narrows, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Robertson Hare.
Irene was a graduate of Williamson High School in Williamson, West Virginia where she met her husband Hollis. Hollis was a sales representative for a mill and mining company and they made their home in Richwood, West Virginia where she spent most of her life. In retirement, she and Hollis spent their winters in Florida and summers at her favorite place, a cabin on the Greenbrier River in West Virginia. She moved to Roanoke 32 years ago and has lived in Botetourt since 2008. Irene enjoyed playing bridge and making crafts. She was a great Christian woman and was always active in her church and community. Since moving to Roanoke, Irene was a member of Summerdean Church of the Brethren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis Williamson; son, Ronald Williamson; sisters Evelyn Vinson and Daisy McNeil; and a son-in-law, Robert McGuire. Irene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Henry Brugh of Cloverdale; grandchildren: Meika (Jim) Sheridan, Ronald Jr. (Barbara) Williamson, Timothy (Kathy) Williamson, Martha (David) Shell, and David (Jennifer) Brugh; step-grandchildren: Julie Riffey and Deborah Prochaska; many loving great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Irene’s family wishes to acknowledge the staff of The Glebe for the many years of wonderful care.
A private graveside service will be Thursday, May 14 at Mountain View Memorial Park in Richwood, West Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Summerdean Church of the Brethren, 6604 Plantation Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24019; Davis Stuart School, 103 Cottage Drive, Lewisburg, West Virginia 24901; or to a charity of one’s choice.
