We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Rader Funeral Home
George Wayne Lipscomb passed away peacefully at his home in Troutville, VA on
June 21, 2022. He was 82 years young.
George was the son of the late George Washington and Willie Gladys Moody Lipscomb.
He was born and grew up in Lynchburg, and lived most of his life in the Roanoke and Troutville areas.
At a young age, George proudly served 3 years in the US Army where he was a driver
and mechanic, afterward receiving an honorable discharge. He credits his military experience as a positive and life changing time. George explored multiple career paths, then retired from Federal Mogul after 20+ years of dedicated service as a Team Foreman.
George enjoyed dining out, particularly at Coach and Four, Angel’s Diner, and Sal’s Italian
Restaurant. Over the years he enjoyed working in his metal and wood working shop, doing handy-work, repairing and collecting watches,
gunsmithing, billiards (pool), and hunting. He took great pleasure sitting on his porch
swing enjoying the woods and listening to 70’s soft rock and country music. He is described by his friends as being gracious and giving to others.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Wickline
Lipscomb, and a son, Bradley Lipscomb. George is survived by a son, Brandon
Lipscomb. He is greatly missed by many caring friends, including his best friend, Nancy Pressing.
Private services will be conducted at the family’s convenience.
Memorial contributions may be made to your local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post
in George’s honor.
