Douglas Lawrence "Larry" Miller

Douglas Lawrence “Larry” Miller, 70, of Vinton, formerly of Botetourt died peacefully in his sleep December 18, 2017.

Larry was born October 25, 1947 in Gulfport, Mississippi and moved to Daleville in 1966. He was the son of the late Alvin Lawrence Miller and Pency Clark Miller Croy who survives.

Larry graduated from Harrison Central High School in Lyman, Mississippi in 1965. Following graduation, he moved to Daleville with his family and joined the US Navy and served for ten years with three years in Vietnam. In 1977, he returned to the Roanoke area where he worked as an electrician in construction. Larry will be fondly remembered for his deep love of children, his cats, every stray animal that he took in, his razor-sharp memory, his devotion to current events, and his love of a good argument which he never lost.

In addition to his mother, Larry is survived by his daughter Dianna Lynn Morey and grandson Clay Wilson both of San Diego, California; sisters and brother-in-law Brenda Miller Sweet, Cathy and Tim Cofflin all of Roanoke, and Donna Rowen Miller of Fincastle; nephews and nieces Chris, Cary, and Elizabeth Sweet, Rachel Russell, Lindsey Johnson, and Savannah Etzler.

A memorial service honoring Larry’s life will 11:00 am, Saturday, December 30 at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 19 Cedar Ridge Drive, Daleville, with Rev. Dr. Justin White officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be at Western Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. Larry’s family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Roanoke Valley SPCA, 1340 Baldwin Avenue, NE, Roanoke, Virginia 24012.
