Donald E. Wilson, age 73 of the Cloverdale area, passed away Monday, January 17, 2021 at Lewis Gale Medical Center.
Don was born October 16, 1948 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and was the son of the late David E. and Eula P. Potts Wilson. The son of a United States Army officer allowed him to grow up throughout the country, but mostly in Texas. For the last three years, he made his home in Botetourt County with his son and daughter-in-law and their family.
Don served in The United States Army in Vietnam and retired as a federal law enforcement agent with the US Customs Service. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association, enjoyed TV westerns, camping and the outdoors, and adored his grandchildren and “grand-dog,” Oreo Jack Wilson.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife and long-time partner, Deborah Jean Wilson. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Carrie Wilson of Botetourt; daughter, Nichole Laughlin of Outer Banks, North Carolina; grandchildren: Leo, Marisa, and Leia Wilson, and Chase Chamberlain; two special nieces: Kimmy and Holly.
Services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Don’s memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
