Daniel Harpine Kinzie, IV, M.D., was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on July 8, 1935, to Geneva Harpine and Daniel Kinzie, III. Dan grew up on the family farm in Troutville, VA with his brother Wayne and sister Roseanne.

Dan attended the University of New Mexico where he majored in Chemical Engineering and Architecture. Following the completion of his Medical Doctorate at UCLA Medical School, Dan joined the United States Navy as a Flight Surgeon.

After reaching the rank of Commander, Dan left the Navy to pursue private medical practice. He worked in Emergency Medicine for the next 30 years and was one of the founding members of the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

In addition to his accomplishments in Emergency Medicine, Dan was an entrepreneur, starting several urgent care and occupational medicine businesses in Texas. Dan was an active practicing physician until the age of 81.

Dan is survived by his wife Helen, his son Hon of Anchorage, Alaska, daughters Kli of Richmond, VA, Magon of Phoenix, AZ, Dnae of North Liberty, Iowa, and step-son Brad of St. Petersburg, FL. Dan has three grandchildren, Maia, Cort and Miles. He is also survived by his brother and sister, Wayne of Michigan and Roseanne of Delaware.

Dan had many special interests throughout his life. He was passionate about photography, fine arts, world travel, skiing, scuba diving and architecture.

After a long battle with cancer, Dan passed away on July 18th, 2017, at his home in Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas, with family by his side.

The family will receive friends 2-3pm Saturday, July 29 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville. A graveside service honoring Daniel’s life will immediately follow at Daleville Cemetery.
