Charles J. “Charlie” Woody, age 89 of Daleville was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior Monday, October 29, 2018.
Charlie was born March 12, 1929 in Franklin, North Carolina and lived in Daleville the past 18 years. He was the son of the late Norman and Daisy Solesbee Woody.
Charlie retired from General Motors as a crane operator and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was past-Worshipful Master of Brotherhood Lodge #561 F. & A.M. Pontiac, Michigan. Charlie loved to garden and also enjoyed his farmall tractor. In later years, he enjoyed tinkering with woodworking making birdhouses and enjoyed reading westerns, particularly Louis L’Amour and Zane Gray. Charlie was a history buff and practical joker, always having a smile on his face.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Charlie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Euretta Brinker Woody; sons and daughters-in-law Dr. Charles Woody and Dr. Sandra Weber of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Gary and Cheryl Woody of Columbiaville, Michigan, and Randy and Brenda Woody of Westland, Michigan; daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Hershel Brewer of Troutville; grandchildren: Garrett (Aly), Nicole, Morgan (Andrew), Christopher, Stephanie, Austin (Michelle), Danielle; great-grandchildren Devyn, Harper, Grayson, and Emersyn. The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to dear friend and caregiver, Anne Palmer, for her many years of love and compassion for Charlie; and also to the staff of Carrington Place.
A celebration of Charlie’s life with Full Military Honors will be 3:00pm, Saturday December 8 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road Daleville with Pastor Roger Keur officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00pm.
