Catherine Crowder Teaford, 86, of Fincastle, Virginia, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018.
Born near Fincastle May 29, 1932, Catherine was the daughter of the late Warner Calvin and Virginia R. Nininger Crowder, and lived in the area all of her life.
A wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, Catherine was also very interested in staying active in her church and community as well as being a dedicated employee. A lifetime (50+ years) member of Eagle Rock Baptist Church, she was involved in the life of the church, holding many positions. More recently, she had been attending Fincastle Baptist Church. Community involvement included Home Demonstration, Botetourt County 4-H, and the Botetourt County Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. During her early employment years, she enjoyed working at Crossroads Hobby Shop and for the US Postal Service which was located inside the shop. The majority of her career was in the banking industry beginning with the First National Bank of Troutville and retiring from NationsBank in 1994.
Catherine enjoyed writing as well as genealogy research and was the author of
The Crowder Connection. She also served on the committee to produce the Botetourt County, Virginia Heritage Book. One of her greatest personal accomplishments was to travel to all 50 states and to several European countries; she took great pride in her travels and thoroughly enjoyed all of her trips.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Teaford, Sr.; brother, Dennis Crowder; sisters-in-law, Pearl Crowder and Carrell Crowder; and brother-in-law; Billy Johnson. Catherine is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, William (Billy) Ray and Ellen Teaford, Jr., and James (Jimmy) Crowder and Debbie Teaford; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine (Cathy) and Lee Cronise; grandchildren: April Teaford Hill and husband Mike, Amanda Teaford Bruneau, Suzanne Cronise, Kristopher Teaford, and Jessica Teaford; and one great-grandson, William (Billy) Bruneau. Additionally, Catherine is survived by siblings, Ashby Crowder, Norma Crowder Johnson, and Loyd Crowder; sister-in-law, Alice Crowder; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, August 30 at Eagle Rock Baptist Church, 50 2nd Street, Eagle Rock with Pastor Kevin Cummings officiating. Interment will be immediately following at Mt. Pleasant (White Church) Cemetery with Pastor Billy Ronk presiding. Catherine’s family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville.
