Barbara R. Koch, age 102 of Daleville passed away Sunday October 22, 2023 at her home.
Barbara was the daughter of the late Hester Juliet (Shaw) Coon and Glen Wonder Richards. She was born in Allison, Iowa on December 24th, 1920. Barbara grew up in Allison, Iowa, but in her life time has lived in many states across North America such as Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama (just to name a few) and even in Alberta, Canada for a brief period with her then husband: Richard J. Koch, Sr.
Barbara graduated from Florida State University with a Master’s degree in Education, she lived and worked in Florida as an English teacher for the Taylor County school systems for 20 years and later in life she worked in the Alabama School System. While taking courses Barbara took courses in engineering just so she’d be available and skilled at a trade since World War II was occurring and if she could help she was prepared for it. She loved her job as a teacher and always was on a quest for knowledge; as she enjoyed reading books as well as articles on the internet for hours! Barbara was a talented pianist and enjoyed playing classical music on her baby grand piano, but most importantly she cherished her family and all of her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband; Richard “Dick” J. Koch, Sr., one sister: Marilyn Hayes. Barbara is survived by her sons and daughters - in – law: Richard “Dick” J. (Donna) Koch, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia, and Robert “Bob” (Linda) Koch of San Marcos, California; a daughter and son – in – law: Christine (Warren) Beiderman of Venice, Florida; 5 grandchildren; 12 great – grandchildren; 2 great great – grandchildren; two nieces: Susan and Leslie Hayes; and one Nephew: Scot Hayes.
A private Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
