Inice Gurline “Gerry” Orange Dillon, age 89 of Fincastle, passed away Friday, February 25, 2022.
Gerry was born June 4, 1932 in Roanoke and lived in Fincastle all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Guy W. and Arry M. Orange. Gerry was an avid bowler in her younger days and won many awards and championships. It was through bowling that she met the “love of her life,” Charlie Dillon with whom she made a life with raising three boys. Gerry was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and canning. She was known as one of the “best cooks in the state,” and was featured in the Fincastle Herald for her cakes. Gerry retired from Botetourt County Public Schools as a school bus driver after many years. She was an avid birdwatcher and enjoyed feeding and watching birds. Gerry and Charlie loved Virginia Beach, spending many summers there with their children and later, in retirement, just the two of them.
In addition to her parents, Gerry was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Charlie L. Dillon in 2016; brothers: Paul Orange and Russell Orange; and her sister, Uldine Board. She is survived by her sons: David (Georgia) Dillon of Troutville, Robert (Missy) Dillon of Daleville, and Will (Lori) Dillon of Smith Mountain Lake; grandchildren: Joshua Dillon, Kelci (Drew) Kennedy, Colton Dillon, Abigail Dillon, Hannah Dillon, Hunter Dillon, Ali Whorley, Haidar Whorley; and great-granddaughter, Campbell Kennedy.
A celebration of Gerry’s life will be 2:00 pm Friday, March 4 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road Daleville with Ben Peyton officiating. Burial will be at Godwin Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-8pm Thursday.
