Dr. Chester I. Jordan, 80, of Lumberton, North Carolina, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Duke University Health System.
Chet was born in Floral Park, NY, October 13, l937, and grew up in Queen's Village, NY. He attended Emory and Henry College and was graduated in 1961. Chet married Marla Johnson from Fincastle, VA in l962. He taught at Lord Botetourt High School, Marion Senior High School, and was chairman of the English Department at Martinsville, High School. He received a master's degree from the University of Wyoming and a PhD from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He taught theatre and speech at James Madison University, Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, and UNC Pembroke, Pembroke, NC.
In addition to his wife Marla, he is survived by his daughters Jennifer Beckman of Charlottesville and Dr. Suzanne Jordan of New York, NY; a grandson Benjamin Beckman and a granddaughter, Emily Beckman; a sister Paula Thompson of Murietta, CA; and a niece Julie Thompson of San Francisco, CA.
Graveside service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, January 13 at Godwin Cemetery, Fincastle with Ben Peyton officiating. Chet’s family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville 6:30-8:30 pm Friday.
